Fair Play

I’m heading up to Newcastle on Tuesday to be on a panel for Generator at the launch of the Musician’s Union’s new “Fair Play” guide. Full info can be found here:

Other speakers are Ross from The Futureheads, Emma from ITB, Jay Taylor from Manchester’s Ruby Lounge and Daryl Robinson from Eastside Events.

Should be a goodun’! If you’re in a band, make sure you get yourself there.

Tea will rock you.

Just put another couple of tea shop gigs on sale. You should probably buy a ticket or two…

Cattle & Cane (acoustic) + Sara Dennis
Sunday 6th May 2012
The Olde Young Tea House in Middlesbrough
7:30pm – £5 from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/165076 or the tea shop

Join Joe, Helen and Frank Hammill of Cattle & Cane for a completely unplugged gig in the intimate setting of Middlesbrough’s The Olde Young Tea House.

Their music is indelibly marked by a sepia-tinted, timeless quality – that could just as easily have emerged from pre-war America as post-millenium Teesside.

Grizzled stalwarts of the North East England musical fraternity are already declaring them the best young band they’ve seen for many a moon, with a breathtaking ability to shift the hardest of hearts with their perfect, soaring harmonies.

Support comes from singer/songwriter Sara Dennis, whose debut album Driftwood is out soon.

No alcohol. Just tea and cakes.

* Please note that this is a standing event with very limited seating available *

William K.J. Anderson (DARTZ/Algiers) + Bob Fischer
Sunday 3rd June 2012
The Olde Young Tea House in Middlesbrough
7:30pm – £5 from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/165077 or the tea shop

Born and raised in East Cleveland but now living in Sheffield, William K.J. Anderson is best known for previously being one third of DARTZ! and currently being one half of Algiers.

Armed simply with his acoustic guitar, William’s solo output is a far cry from that of his bands, with comparisons to artists as varied as Geoff Farina, Nick Drake, Iron & Wine, Skip James and Ben Gibbard regularly being thrown around.

Having shared stages with the likes of Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Beth Jeans Houghton and Hyde & Beast last year, William will be performing his first solo gig of 2012 in the intimate surroundings of Middlesbrough’s The Olde Young Tea House.

Support comes from the wonderful Bob Fischer Trio…

No alcohol. Just tea and cakes.

* Please note that this is a standing event with very limited seating available *

Definitely a bit different from the other stuff I’ve been booking recently (Brother, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Dananananaykroyd, Tellison etc) but a nice challenge and an intriguing proposition to be putting on gigs that my parents will probably want to go to…!

Got a few tributes booked in too including Zion, The CUREheads and Re-Take That. See http://www.arconline.co.uk for all the info.
