Do It Yourself

On Wednesday 9th March, I’m going to be a panellist at a Generator and TMA event called Compact: DIY. I’ve done a couple of similar things recently including a BBC Introducing event as part of last year’s Stockton Riverside Festival and the feedback has been good, so if you’re in a local band, you should probably come down and ask some questions!

Here’s the blurb from the organisers:

Compact – Digital techniques for musicians and businesses

A series of events over two days at Stockton’s Green Dragon Studios aim to demystify digital techniques to make sure you can get the most out of the internet, email and social media – boosting your fanbase and selling your music.

Hosted by Generator and Tees Music Alliance on the 8-9 March people taking part get the chance to listen to experts explain how they market and sell music to online audiences. There are also opportunities for regional music businesses to get one-to-one advice.

DIY – do it yourself online
6-8pm

Panelists including Henry Carden (DARTZ!/Pay for the Piano), Nick Holden (get-ctrl/FanStar), Sebastian Mysko (Rising Digital) and Matthew Young (Song by Toad) discuss distributing and selling music online.

Topics covered include:

  • How to keep control of your IP
  • Delivering music direct to fans
  • E-commerce for artists and labels
  • How to make money from your music
  • Building your fanbase

Should be an interesting one. It’s free to attend but advance booking is recommended:
